#2under2 and Why It's Not As Mental As You Might Think

At a recent work team meeting, I was called “Daddy Two”, on account that my wife just had another baby, giving us two children under two years of age. We all agreed that not only had another son been born, so had my rap name. Thus, Daddy2 will be hitting the streets with large oversized rings and putting his face up reeeeeealy close to the camera whilst hunched down on his knees. Well maybe not that, his knees can’t handle that sort of stress anymore.

But away from my rapping high-life, life in general has become, weirdly, only slightly more hectic. Certainly, the difference going from one baby to two babies was not as mental and crazy as going from none to one. I guess we already had certain processes in place, like getting awoken during the night, changing nappies and whatnot. There’s a lot more of waking up in the night at the moment of course, but that’s expected. But that’s quite handy as I’m getting old and need to wee more, so two birds one stone.

Preparing for two under two

So if you are looking for tips and have a second baby on its way, here are three things I’ve noticed that might help you prepare for two under two:

  1. The number of times you’ll say “I can’t believe how light this baby is!” will become unfathomable. Seriously. When you compare the weight of your current baby – however heavy he or she is – with a newborn, you’ll be left unaccountably flabberghasted every time. Regardless of how obviously light a newborn will be, you’ll find yourself saying this every time you lift him up, and you’ll genuinely mean it too.
  2. Muslin cloths will once again be your friend. You may have forgotten about these beauties. These little squares of goodness that effortlessly soak up all the milky vomit that would otherwise land on you. You’ll find you keep them in your pockets, wallets and tucked down your underwear, just in case. Don’t go anywhere without them. If you still have some from baby 1, look them out. If you don’t, then buy all of the ones on Amazon.

That’s right. ALL of the ones.
  3. You’ll just be much better at this. Seriously. You’ve got this. You’ve already done it once, and you’ve probably made all the mistakes with baby 1, and they turned out ok, didn’t they? At least, they’re not in jail, so that’s something. You’ll be more confident and less scared that everything you are doing is some form of murder. This baby will still be challenging, but not in a learning curve type of way. More in a “oh my God there’s two of them now” style. But you knew that.

2 under 2 babies is going to be a terrific adventure. If you have any top tips for me, leave them below in the comments!
